Green belt We are strong supporters of national planning policy guidance PPG2 Green belts, which only allows the modification of green belt boundaries in ‘ exceptional circumstances' . There are formally designated Green Belts in the South West around: Gloucester and Cheltenham; Bristol and Bath; and Bournemouth and Poole.
Click here for what we said about ‘ exceptional circumstances ' in relation to potential changes to Green Belt boundaries in the South West through the former regional spatial strategy process. See also our national CPRE website www.cpre.org.uk for our national Green Belt campaign.
Green Infrastructure We also support policy and related strategies to identify, maintain and extend Green Infrastructure around cities and towns in the South West - especially where urban extension is proposed. Click here for our briefing on Green Infrastructure.. It explains the concept of Green infrastructure - and how it differs from Green Belt.
