Planning and housing
We campaign for a sequential, phased, ‘plan, monitor and manage’ approach to ensure the right new homes are delivered in the right place and at the right time, and in the most environmentally friendly and sustainable way.
We encourage improved use of brown-field land to support urban renaissance; closer matching of new homes with jobs and local facilities, to reduce the need to travel; an increased proportion of affordable homes to meet local need; and lower levels of new housing overall in the South West than proposed in recent years.
Our main focus at present is supporting branches with their work on Local Development Framework (LDF) core strategies. There are 35 local planning authorities in the South West with about 24 expected to reach formal consultation on their draft LDF core strategy in the next year plus.
LDFs will determine policies on future development levels and its spatial distribution, and affordable housing policy, for each LDF area - as well as covering many other policy areas.
Our planning and housing topic group enables co-ordination and sharing experience between our branches in the South West.
